What To Do On Valentine’s Day
When you are single, all these Valentine’s Day talks about cupcakes with a frosted pink heart waiting on your doorstep is really depressing. What I would really like more than anything on that day is to disappear, underneath my pillows with Sean Kingston on my iPod because something about his songs sprouts cartoon-ish scenarios in my imagination, where it’s actually alright to laugh at all of the lovebirds, around the globe.
Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love love stories. I am a total sucker for dating, too, when in the mood, for it. I think weeping at Pocahontas (1995) is totally alright, until you watch the second straight-to-Disney-home-video film, and you feel that nothing wrong can ever happen in the world if Pocahontas can genuinely end up happy, with the right guy, after crossing so many obstacles in love.
I do not like to be cynical at all on Valentine’s Day because there’s no harm in falling in love, if you are in the mood. There is no harm to be all like “today there is going to be PDA everywhere and there is nothing you can do about it”, except it looks so gross here in Islington. There is nothing wrong with getting mushy and romantic, once a year, except this day should also be about celebrating love, in your own unique way: one of those ways is to take a breather from all of this dating, and just be single because you feel it.
So, what can you do when you are single on Valentine’s Day? Nothing much! Going out will mean getting greeted with people carrying around candy hearts and pink balloons randomly flying around in the sunshine, probably, to your amusement, if you are lucky. In all likelihood, what you will most definitely end up seeing is pink balloons dressing some of those seriously cool shops in your neighbourhood. That is all the entertainment all the single kids can anticipate on Valentine’s Day, I think its safe to say!
A far better alternative to all of that would be catching any of these films. It would “probably” turn one of those fantasies into reality on Valentine’s Day: they are sure to take your breath away, for how amazing being single (and strong) can really be like; it’s got it all: mates + tear-jerking love stories + revenge.
